Walking the Walk: 2 Reflections and Actions

Last Friday the 23rd of April I walked to Falmouth and met Alex (and her daughter) and Henry, to walk the walk. It was an interesting and thought provoking afternoon. We discussed some of the art works, their locations, possible photograph locations, sound locations and many other walk related subjects.

Lots of things came out of this walk for me

One of which was that so far we had only one known artist in our selection that was a women which was Winifred Freeman. This bothered me greatly and I I felt this had to be addressed. I returned to the online collection on the Falmouth Art Gallery website, and began looking for other women artists work that could be used and I found one. A work by Joan Ford Kimberley Park 2. It doesn’t provide an equal balance of genders. However through the use of the photographs in the collection we can present a balance of named and unknown artists, which may go some way to being inclusive. Alongside the use of a wide variety of different mediums such as pencil drawings, and a wood cut print.

Having done this, this afternoon I went about sharing the artworks we had into 4 groups The Moor, The Park, The High Street, and The Prince of Wales Pier. I have emailed them to the group for discussion and debate, to see what we want to take further for photographs and audio descriptions.
