                                                 Last Post - Hurrah!

What have I learnt over the last 6 months as a citizen curator?

Patience, good communication skills, and to think about the multiple stories one object can tell.

What have I found hardest?

The poor communication from the museum/gallery volunteer coordinator has hampered our group dynamics dramatically. The few information requests we have had have not been valued. I ask for a telephone conversation it was ignored. Rather than explain to the group that one of us struggled with Technology, they let that person suffer in silence, rather than encourage the rest of us to support them and help them to have a meaningful learning experience. For example we have worked in a shared Dropbox that the person is unable to access, which had we known from the beginning we could of given the person a loan of a laptop or tablet so as to be able to take part. For me the low point was being told ‘well if it doesn’t get done it doesn’t matter’, and other such negative sentences.

The app training was interesting but once uploading high resolution files we found out that the app creator had omitted to give us the maximum file sizes in the info sheet. This could of saved us 15 hours plus of work.

What have I enjoyed?

Walking the walk with my camera and learning about some of the lesser known artists in the collection.

 How will I move forward?

I would like to apply for a trainee Curatorship in county and complete my AMA. However I am aware that I’m unlikely to be welcome by the volunteer coordinator at the gallery, as I prefer to get thing done, rather than avoid them.

To finish the walk by the end of July.

To work at my Cornish Collection submission

Thank you for an interesting 6 months of learning,
